Abstract

Objective: Aimed to describe the impact of implementing the breast cancer diagnosis service in the Health Region of Juazeiro, Bahia, and analyze mortality rates from 1998 to 2017. Methods: Ecological, retrospective study of a time series was conducted, including mortality rates from breast câncer based on the System DATASUS. Mortality rates, temporal trends, mean variations in annual percentages, correlations between rates, and the distance, city of origin, and Human Development Index (HDI) were calculated. Results: Mortality increased after implementing the diagnostic service, and the trend in both periods was growth, more accentuated after implementing. There was negative correlation between the mortality and the distance. The correlation was positive between the HDI and the mortality rates. Conclusion: By increasing the frequency of visits by the mobile unit to the locations served, access to qualified information, timely treatment, and improving the recording deaths, this could lead to a reduction in mortality rates.
