Survey of foliar diseases in urban gardens of Petrolina-PE

Abstract

Information on urban agriculture in the Petrolina-PE municipality is scarce, especially for plant diseases. Thus, in this work was proposed a survey of the main foliar diseases associated to urban vegetable gardens in the city. For this, 91.3% of the gardens were sampled. All orchard bed were examined with the objective of finding symptoms of leaf phytopathogens. In the study, the sample unit was constituted by each orchard bed of each garden evaluated. The main diseases were of the bacterioses, viruses and powdery mildew group, with 29.5%, 14.3% and 12.9% of infected orchard bed, respectively. The diseases that occur in the 21 sampled gardens and the diseases that occur in the eight most cultivated crops are analyzed in the text, aiming to determine priorities of the research/ extension to outline strategies to reduce the damages with these foliar diseases in urban vegetable gardens of the region.
