ADDRESSING SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS WITH INMATE WOMEN: A REPORT OF EXPERIENCE

Abstract

The precariousness of access to public health services by persons deprived of liberty combined with the unhealthy environment of collective living contribute, directly or indirectly, to the emergence of diseases and significantly increases the cases of sexually transmitted infections, which is accentuated by misinformation. of most inmates. This paper describes the experience of nursing students during an educational activity with the approach focused on sexually transmitted infections, an action that integrates the extension project entitled “Women's Health in Prison: a proposal for health promotion”, offered by the Federal University of São Paulo. São Francisco Valley and developed in the Petrolina-PE Women's Public Prison. In the development of the activity, it was noticed the interest of the prisoners by the subject, in which it was possible to systematize and work the content from the knowledge of the participants and the use of playfulness to facilitate the understanding of the reeducandas. The experience was unique in that it contributed positively to academic education, sensitizing students to recognize the role of extension in meeting social demands and provoking reflection on the vulnerability of this population.
