Abstract

The objective of this paper is to report the experience of Nursing students during the activities developed in a University Extension Project entitled “Women's Health in Prison: A Health Promotion Proposal” that provides Health Education, besides providing assistance to women. female prisoners of the Petrolina-PE Public Prison. Considering the hyperendemic reality of the city of Petrolina-PE and the intense and prolonged contact between women, the promotion of playful and attractive educational activities in the leprosy chain allows the understanding of the dimension of the disease, the need for early diagnosis, disabilities. leprosy, besides contributing to the awakening of tolerance and empathy with people with leprosy reactions. These project interventions corroborate the implementation of the guidelines and principles of the Unified Health System by minimizing problems and ensuring a better quality of life. The workshops offered the students a differentiated health education through the moments of welcoming, humanization and demystification of social stigmas, encouraging the formation of critical professionals directed to the patient's comprehensive care.
