In view of the social determinants of health, understood by WHO as a set of forces that shape the conditions of daily life, it is strategic to investigate the lives of the populations for the proper development of health promotion and assistance actions. It is estimated that 10% of the population of any country is made up of people with some disability. Thus, the objective of this study was to perform an epidemiological survey of the residents, focusing on people with disabilities, from Mem de Sá Island, in Sergipe, assessing their functional performance. Two visits were made to the site, in January and February 2020, applying a sociodemographic questionnaire to residents and the Katz Scale to those responsible for people with disabilities. 52 houses were visited (representing 183 people) and 14 people with disabilities were found (7,6% of the people). Among the deficiencies found, there are cognitive, mental, behavioral, systemic and physical. Eleven cases have independent functional performance, performing all daily activities on their own. Three cases are more dependent, requiring more attention. Inside the island there are no permanent education and health services, which highlights the need for intervention in the local reality of people with and without disabilities.
