This is a descriptive study, of the experience report type, which reveals the collection of cervical material made by nursing academics, during activities of the extension project entitled “Women’s Health in prison: a proposal for promotion of health”. Five women were assisted whose collection of material from the uterine cervix was preceded by inspection of the vulva, having confirmed alterations such as hyperemias and the state of the uterine coloration. The outreach activities contributed to academic training, making it possible to raise awareness about the importance of testing for the prevention and early detection of uterine cancer, especially in women in prison situations.
