Abstract

The article highlights the importance of food security as a fundamental human right, recognized nationally and internationally. It emphasizes the crucial role of family farming in producing quality food and sustaining thousands of Brazilian families. It presents the Extension Project "Strengthening the Culture of Human Rights and Citizenship in Family Farming (DHAF)", which aims to promote human rights and citizenship in the Três Rios region by providing access to justice and guidance on rights related to family farming. The objective is to demonstrate the positive impact of the project in the region and its relevance to the promotion of human rights in family farming. The article is divided into two sections: the first will address the legal regulation of the right to food, its relationship with family farming, and its contribution to food security in Brazil; the second will explore the experience of the DHAF Project, highlighting its importance for the Centro-Sul Fluminense region and for the promotion of human rights of family farmers.
