Research on selective collection and recycling with high school students of public schools in Ituiutaba – MG city

Abstract

This article deals with an intervention with the senior year of high school students in the city of Ituiutaba – MG. The main objective is to contribute to their awareness onthe selective collection and recycling. A lecture on these issues was held in each school, and questionnaires were applied before and after the lecture in order to verify students’ perception regarding the issues discussed. Although almost all of the students before and after the lecture, considered important the processes of selective collection and recycling, it was observed that only 58.92 % of them knew that there was any difference between the processes of selective collection and recycling. This percentage rose to 88.65 % upon completion of the lecture, and the percentage of respondents who said that the “waste” produced in their homes is separated increased from 46.49 % to 55.14 %.
