Adopting Sustainable Management to Combat Fruit Flies

Abstract

This work aims to reduce the application of pesticides, putting into practice the use of traps that aims to quantify and assess the level of pest infestation. With this educational process in environmental prevention and control of fruit fl ies in Irrigation Project Senador Nilo Coelho in the city of Petrolina, we seek to refl ect on the threat that the plague back to the Valley of the São Francisco and encourage the participation of the local community. This project started from educational activities carried out in schools in Irrigation Project Senador Nilo Coelho, which provided students with knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for raising awareness about the issues related to the environment, as well as clarifi cation on the fruit fl ies and the damage they can cause the fruits and the local economy.
