The study sought to investigate the reactions of childhood cancer in the family dynamics, as well as understand the relationship between professionals and caregivers with children in treatment and their parents. The study included fi ve parents / guardians of children with cancer, two psychologists, a children’s oncologist and a nurse working directly with disease, and two caretakers of an institution that houses the parents and children who need cancer treatment, in a town in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul. used to semi-structured interview as the data collection method, in a meeting held with each and caregiver, and two individual meetings with parents. Revealed a strong emotional impact that childhood cancer causes throughout the family, carers and the multidisciplinary team. The intervention of the psychologist is of fundamental importance as a mediator and facilitator element in coping and treatment process.
