Abstract

The chemical dependency is an issue of public healthcare and the maintenance and extension of autonomy is a challenge for the population that suffers from this form of illness. The amount of people that depend on substances, the risks and injuries arising from legal and illegal drug use in Brazil and around the world make indispensable the discussion of treatments directed to the population in dependency situation, the investigation of procedures and activities that may contribute to the increase of autonomy and reinsertion of those who, for being drug dependent, were excluded from social life and labor activities. In this article, we pretend to show Professional Orientation as a proposal to strengthen relations and choices in the process of social reinsertion, starting from the experience of planning and making a Professional Orientation workshop linked to university extension, in a Therapeutic Community located at São Paulo state countryside.
