Abstract

This text reports the trajectory of the Extension Project called THE TALE THAT THE BOXES TELL, which has been carrying out diverse storytelling sessions whose scenario is based on exciting books of Children and Youth Literature. The purpose of the Project is to introduce students of the Faculty of Education of the Minas Gerais State University to possibilities and strategies on working with storytelling in early childhood education and in the early years of elementary school. The methodology comprises three stages: the study and selection of books; the production of didactic material, i.e. making boxes for each narrative, and finally storytelling. In order to make boxes and characters, several materials are reused, emphasizing social responsibility and the necessary environmental consciousness. The presentations take place in a playful way: at classrooms, opening of seminars, conferences and various activities. The theoretical framework is based on the studies of Brejo (2019), Cosson (2018) and Gregorin Filho (2009), seeking to demonstrate that the presence of literature in school is fundamental for children's literary background. The results point out that the work has contributed to the expansion of Children and Youth Literature`s repertoire for those who attend storytelling sessions.
