Interdisciplinary intervention in patients with metabolic syndrome of a university hospital of Petrolina-PE: experiences of an extension project

Abstract

Metabolic Syndrome (MS) is described as a set of metabolic disorders and cardiovascular risk factors due to obesity. HU-UNIVASF / EBSERH, as a reference hospital in the São Francisco Valley, which exclusively serves the Unified Health System, has identified in the ambulatory users a need for intervention in patients with MS. An Extension Project was created by a multidisciplinary team of hospital staff including doctor, physiotherapist, physical education professional, psychologist, nutritionist, pharmaceutical and biomedical, as well as fellows and volunteers with the goal of promoting a lifestyle change MEV) to patients referred from the medical evaluation. The MEV is based on intervention to 20 users, with a semiannual periodicity, divided in two groups of 10, submitted to physical activities, weekly follow-up, nutritional and psychological. It is hoped that this project will contribute to the promotion of healthy habits and improvement of the quality of life of this population.
