STRENGTHENING PERIOPERATIVE NURSING: DEVELOPMENT OF ASSISTENTIAL CHECKLIST AND MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT

Abstract

Report the experience on the development of care checklist and control of materials and equipment to strengthen the culture of safety of surgical patients. This is a qualitative study of the experience report type, experienced by members of the extension program "Culture of Patient Safety with a focus on Perioperative" of the nursing course at the University of the State of Santa Catarina (Udesc). The (re) knowledge of the instruments existing in the surgical center of a public hospital in western Santa Catarina was carried out, in a total of 11 checklists, with information, sometimes repeated. After analysis, the information was unified into two instruments: "Assistance Checklist" and "Materials and Equipment Checklist", to assist the service in the implementation of actions that strengthen patient safety in the perioperative period. It is suggested to equip professionals for the correct use of Checklist's to improve communication between the members of the surgical team and inpatient units, increase the safety of the surgical patient and qualify the records.
